"We believe in election of best candidates"
26.12.2009
Hundreds of representatives from foreign countries and international organizations will observe the process of elections on December 27 to the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan. UzA reporters asked impressions of arriving international observers and their views on the election campaign.
Bogdasha Babich, Director of the Institute of Practical Politics (Ukraine):“The Central Electoral Commission of Uzbekistan carries out its activities well and orderly. This facilitates the holding of elections at a high level.
In order to improve the legislation process and socio-political activity of political parties the number of seats in the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis increased from 120 to 150. Only political parties have the right to nominate candidates for deputies of the Legislative Chamber. Creation of the environmental movement and giving it 15 seats in the Legislative Chamber is a clear indication that your country is doing a great job in protecting the environment.
On election day, I intend to visit election districts in the Ferghana Valley.
I read the election campaigning of political parties and found that Uzbekistan pays special attention to ensuring openness and transparency of the election campaign. I was interested to see the sharp debate between the political parties. This will further enhance the ability of voters to choose a worthy candidate in the voting process.”
