84 CIS observers to monitor elections
The mission of observers of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States started its activities to monitor the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.
Observer: “Elections to be open and transparent”
About 300 observers from foreign states and international organizations are expected to take part in the upcoming elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oiy Majlis of Uzbekistan. UzA spoke to the deputy head of the CIS observers’ mission Yevgeniy Sloboda.
250+ foreign observers registered for elections
The Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan held its regular session on 14 December with participation of the representatives of the media and the OSCE ODIHR elections evaluation mission.
The commission registered the observers for the parliamentary elections due on 27 December from foreign states, international organizations and movements.
In particular, registration was issued to the missions of the CIS Executive Committee, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Organization of the Islamic Conference, as well as 36 states.
ODIHR observers mission starts work
The members of the mission of observers of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights received mandates for the monitoring of the parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan.
At the meeting at the Central Election Commission, the ODIHR experts (the mission consists of 13 persons) were provided with information on the preparation to the elections, to be held on 27 December.
The commission chairman Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov told the mission
about the changes introduced in the election legislation, among which
is the allocation of 15 seats in the lower house of parliament to the
Environmental Movement.

Central Election Commission holds session
The Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan held a session to consider the registration of observers from international organizations for the elections to the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis.
In accordance with article 6 of the law on elections to the parliament,
observers from political parties participating in elections,
representatives of the mass media, as well as observers from foreign
states, international organizations and movements may participate in
all events related to preparation and conduction of the elections.
The
Central Election Commission registered the mission of observers from
the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights in the
quantity of 13 persons.

Candidates for Members of Parliament Get Registered
517 candidates will run for 135 seats in the Legislative Chamber

The Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a session to consider the issue of registration of candidates to deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis last week.
The commission said it had carefully checked the documents presented by the political parties for registration of the candidates and their compliance with requirements of the legislation.
Upon the inspection and in compliance with Article 26 of the Law “On elections to Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, the Central Election Commission took decision on registering a total of 517 candidates to deputies, including 123 candidates from Adolat Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, 125 from Milliy Tiklanish Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, 135 from UzLiDeP Businessmen Movement – Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and 134 from the People’s Democratic Party.

At a regular meeting, members of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan approved the procedure of using the media by candidates, political parties during the election campaign for the parliament’s lower house.
