About the visit of the delegation of the Secretariat United Nations at CEC

On July 23, 2019, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan M. Abdusalomov met the delegation of the United Nations Needs Assessment Mission (NAM), led by Senior Election and Political Affairs Officer P. Russi.


The main objective of NAM is to evaluate the electoral environment, the legal and institutional framework governing the electoral process, as well as the potential and needs of various electoral stakeholders. Based on the assessment results, the Mission will develop recommendations for determining the type of assistance.


The mission usually recommends the support in optimizing the electoral legal framework, as well as training of election commission staff based on international practice.


During the meeting, M. Abdusalomov informed the guests about the adoption of a number of regulations aimed at improving the activities of the Central Election Commission, the further development and implementation of information and communication technologies in the electoral process. Particular attention was paid to the adoption of the Electoral Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which unified the electoral standards and procedures enshrined in the previously existing electoral laws on elections. The meeting participants discussed topical issues of preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections and local representative bodies, the formation and use of a single electronic voters list.

In turn, members of the delegation stressed the importance of ongoing reforms in the electoral legislation of Uzbekistan in accordance with international standards and expressed support for the development of cooperation in this direction.

It was noted that during the visit, the Mission will hold meetings with representatives of other ministries and departments, political parties and public organizations, representatives of the media, civil society institutions, as well as representatives of these organizations in the Fergana region.
