THE CENTRAL ELECTION COMMISSION

OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN

On December 4, 2016 preliminary time of briefing of the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov on the process of voting on Election Day will be at   10:00 p.m.

THE CENTRAL ELECTION COMMISSION OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN

As an independent body Central Electoral Commission has been functioning since 1998. Its functions and legal status are defined by the Constitution, Law «On the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan» as well as the laws «On guarantees of electoral rights of citizens», «On the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan», «On the elections to the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan», «On referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan» and others.

To organize and hold the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, to the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan shall be formed by the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the main principles of activity of which shall be independence, legality, collegiality, publicity and fairness.


The Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan shall carry out its activity on a permanent basis and shall be guided in its activity by the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, laws on elections and referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and other legislative acts.


The Central Election Commission shall be summoned up by all its activity to promote the implementation of democratic principles of the electoral system, and to ensure environment to express voters’ free will.

Members of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan shall be elected by the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the recommendation of the Jokarghy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional and Tashkent city Kenghashes of people’s deputies.


Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan shall be elected from among its members upon the nomination of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the meeting of the commission.

 

Member of the Central Election Commission may not be member of another electoral Commission or political party. Member of the Central Election Commission, registered, in accordance with the Law, as candidate for the election to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as candidate to the deputy of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, as candidate to member of the Senate, shall be deemed to have withdrawn from the Commission. 


Member of the Central Election Commission, by its decision, may work at the Commission on a permanent basis.
